Born Alloway, Ayrshire.
Poet. Most notable. Poems Tam O'Shanter, To A Mouse, songs My Love is like a Red Red Rose, Auld Lang Syne. Poor farmers Son, works now published Worldwide. Burns Nights held Worldwide on anniversary of his birthdate 25th January.

Author, Mountaineer. Most notable Mount Everest three times, Alps, Caucasus, NZ, South America. Founder Glencoe Mountain Rescue Team. Invented innovative rescue equipment. Awarded OBE. Inducted Scottish Sports Hall of Fame 2003.
