Comment: This smorgasborg of broken stone began life in the 1200's. Through wars with Scotland and England it saw much battle damage. What remains today is a culmination of a Century's worth of work between 1300 and 1400AD. The gatehouse which affords the highest elevated view was built by Abbot William Kennedy around 1530. Now under the protective umbrella of Historic Scotland, which also means it costs 3 quid to get in. |
